CANE is an organisation opposed to the building of new nuclear power stations in Suffolk. Our purpose is to protect both people and the environment, now and in the future, from the risks and dangers of radioactivity by preventing any further development of nuclear activity in our communities. CANE will campaign in a legal and honest way to ensure that new nuclear power stations are not built in Suffolk. CANE will continue lobbying representatives and contacting conservation and other organisations to seek support.

Communities Against Nuclear Expansion (CANE)
What people are saying against our campaign
Nuclear creates jobs
A new power station at Sizewell will create around 600 to 900 jobs on site, with a possible additional 1,000 to 2,000 jobs in support trades. However similar investment in renewables and distributed energy will actually create even more jobs and in a sector where skills will be in greater demand than ever in the future.
The imapct of a new nuclear power statoin on our heritage coast and the effect that it may have on tourism could well mean less jobs, not more.
Its a Waste of time - The Government will do it anyway
CANE believe that democracy does not happen once every five years in an election. If the full cost of nuclear were to be borne by the industry, then new stations will not be built. There is no example of a nuclear power station making a profit if the full cost of waste manangement and decommissioning were to be borne by the industry.
The government has promised that the full cost of new power stations will be paid for by the private sector, but it has not yet come up with a mechanism to ensure that will be the case.
